Industrial Spray Painter

Job Summary
The Industrial Spray Painter prepares, paints, and finishes industrial units, power units, field returns, and fabricated components requiring final finishing. This role is responsible for surface preparation, masking, paint application, equipment adjustments, quality checks, and spray booth maintenance while following established safety and finishing requirements. The position also operates material-handling equipment and coordinates with crane operators to safely move large units into and out of the spray booth.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and feather edging bare metal and previously painted surfaces.
• Mask bushings and other components to prevent unwanted paint application.
• Review Bills of Material to verify correct paint color and specified film thickness.
• Record serial numbers for repainted units and apply identification as required.
• Adjust and monitor pump pressures, heater temperatures, and air and fluid pressures to maintain proper spray application.
• Check paint viscosity using a Zahn cup and stopwatch at required intervals.
• Maintain proper fluid and air pressure in pressure pots used for special-color applications.
• Inspect painted units carefully to ensure complete and consistent coverage.
• Change spray booth filters and maintain cleanliness of the booth and surrounding floor areas.
• Clean and lubricate spray guns at the end of each shift.
• Obtain and maintain required medical clearance and certification for respirator use.
• Clean and maintain personal respiratory protection equipment according to established procedures.
• Retrieve paint and related materials using hand carts and barrel trucks.
• Operate electric walkie equipment with a capacity of up to 15,000 pounds to move smaller units into the spray booth.
• Coordinate with crane operators to safely move large units into and out of the spray booth.
• Follow all applicable safety, quality, and environmental procedures.

Job Requirements

• Previous industrial, manufacturing, or automotive spray-painting experience.
• Minimum 6 months of spray-painting experience preferred.
• Experience with industrial airless and/or air-pressure painting preferred.
• Ability to properly prepare, mask, spray, inspect, and finish industrial surfaces.
• Ability to monitor and adjust paint application equipment and pressure settings.
• Ability to read and follow Bills of Material and technical instructions.
• Ability to perform physical material-handling tasks associated with painting operations.
• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate powered material-handling equipment.
• Ability to work safely around cranes, heavy equipment, paints, coatings, and related materials.
• Ability to obtain and maintain medical clearance for respirator use.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future corporate sponsorship.
• Candidates should reside within a 50-mile radius of Waukesha, WI, unless exempt under applicable military service provisions.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
